Repositioning Arts Education Through Web Design
THE CHALLENGE
In defense of the arts
MassArt, a four-year public college, faced the stigma that artists live and work in isolation and have poor job prospects. Some parents struggle justifying tuition for an arts degree, and the school lacked public awareness of their high-caliber faculty, students, and alums. This website design had to be beautiful, but it also needed to go beyond aesthetics and emphasize the results of an arts education.
SHOW, DON'T TELL
The Power of Storytelling in Design
We tackled MassArt’s obstacles through storytelling, design, and collaboration. We positioned MassArt as a hub for MAKERS, people who fuel Boston and other cities through creative economy. We told the MassArt story through a searchable, interactive gallery to showcase the school’s extensive range of work, exhibitions, auctions, and other public events.
BRING ON THE CRIT
Truly creative collaboration
To manage stakeholder expectations and improve buy-in, we introduced the design team early in the project and actively workshopped proposed designs at Town Halls on campus. By testing designs on the site’s target audience, we achieved a truly creative and authentic website.
